Potato Moussaka with Mushroom


Moussaka is a greek dish made usually from eggplant. I made this with potato, mushroom and seitan.  And after doing some research it seems like this version is actually Serbian or Bulgarian.

2 Large Potatoes, cooked whole and sliced into 1/4 inch pieces

1 Package of Seitan, minced

1/2 onion, minced

2 Cups of Chopped Mushroom

2 Cups crushed Tomato


1 Cup Sour Cream

1/2 Cup Shredded Cheese

1 Egg


Sliced Potato

Saute the onion and mushroom until tender. Add the minced seitan and cook through. Mix in the tomato and season with salt and pepper. This mixture will be layered in between the potato.

Lightly grease a baking dish. Put a layer of potato, a layer of tomato mixture, another layer of potato in the dish until you’ve used everything and the top layer is potato.


Mix the sour cream, cheese and egg in a bowl until it come together. Spread on top of the potato and garnish with paprika.


Bake at 350 degrees until the top is set, about 35 minutes. Serve in slices.
