This year, at my house, we planted our own vegetable/flower garden taking up all of our tiny front yard. Although our garden stands apart from the sea of green of our neighbors- it has even earned distain from some of them- it possesses its own kind of wild beauty. And as an added bonus we reap its nutritious rewards. We have beets, green beans, sunflowers and will soon have plenty of cucumbers, watermelons, tomatoes, and more.
This meal was almost completely made up of food from the garden. We roasted the beets in the oven, as well as sautéed their leaves with onion, garlic and white wine, and blanched the green beans. Delicious and practically free!
